Celebrating Three Decades of Dedication

Jose Chapa was there when the San Antonio Distribution Center doors opened—and 30 years later, he’s celebrating his milestone anniversary with Clarios. 

This year marks a significant milestone for both our San Antonio Distribution Center—celebrating its 30th anniversary—and for one of our most dedicated team members, Jose Chapa, Quality Analyst, who is also celebrating an incredible 30 years with Clarios.

From Two Weeks to Three Decades 

Jose’s journey with Clarios began in July 1995, just as the San Antonio Distribution Center was preparing to open its doors. What started as a two-week assignment—before the facility was even officially operational—evolved into a remarkable 30-year career.

Jose recalls those early days vividly: “They were still unloading flatbeds and trailers and whatnot.” It was a time defined by hustle, teamwork, and building something from the ground up. Although Jose initially planned to move on after two weeks, encouragement from a production manager convinced him to stay—a decision that’s clearly paid off for both him and Clarios.

“The plan was to be here just two weeks, and here I am 30 years later,” Jose chuckled.

Commitment to Quality

Over the years, Jose has worn many hats. He began in boosting and battery maintenance, while also supporting warehouse maintenance and inventory control. He later transitioned to the shipping lines, where he served as a crew lead and trainer. But it was his move to the quality department that truly sparked his passion.

“Quality has always been my passion—to do things right,” Jose explained.

With prior experience in quality, he embraced the opportunity to become a teardown analyst and later a quality analyst, a role he continues to thrive in today. His commitment to excellence is rooted in a deep understanding of how quality impacts customer satisfaction.

“When I first started, I heard ‘We need to serve our customers the right way,’” Jose noted. “I want to make sure that every battery we touch makes it out the door the right way,” he said. “That commitment to quality drives what I do here.”

Powering Performance, Possibility—and People

When reflecting on his most memorable moments, Jose is quick to credit the plant managers who helped shape the San Antonio Distribution Center. Their leadership not only established the facility as a local success, but also as a national model—serving as a training hub for other distribution centers across the country.

“A lot of DCs were modeled after this one,” Jose noted. “That gives you a real sense of accomplishment and pride.”

When asked what has kept him at Clarios for three decades, Jose’s answer is simple and sincere: “It’s a great place to work, honestly.”

He attributes his longevity to the ever-evolving nature of the job, the daily challenges that keep him motivated, and most importantly, the people.

“It helps when you have a great team around you,” he said. “A great team of professional people—it really makes a difference. Every day brings a new challenge, so it’s about keeping things running smoothly and making sure transitions happen the way they’re supposed to.”
